Babbo and a Flashback

|

Happy Saturday, everyone!  Sorry for being MIA yesterday – Peter and I made an impromptu trip into NYC.  Yesterday at about 8:30 am, Peter and I looked at each other and said “Let’s go today!”, and by 9 am we were out the door.

We knew this was going to be a short trip because of the dogs, so we stuck to the essentials: the Metropolitan Museum of Art and food!  Since there are a lot of pictures in this post, I’m going to keep the text to a minimum.

On the way down, we passed by Waveny House in New Canaan, which happens to be where Peter and I were married nearly two years ago! We couldn’t resist stopping in to take a look (and to use their bathroom). Here are a couple of pictures I took yesterday vs. their 2-year-old equivalents:

And, because I know you’ll ask:

Waveny House is so gorgeous. I loved having a chance to look around again.

Let’s move on to the NYC fun! Exploring the Met:

Extremely poor aim:

I want all of these violins for myself!

We also stopped by Kalustyan’s, the amateur chef’s spice playground:

Peter was like a kid in a candy store:

We walked out with far more than anyone should be carrying around NYC.

Dinner was at Babbo, owned by chef Mario Batali (I’m sure you’ve heard of him).  Our friend Eric at Forbidden City has been trying to get us to go there for ages. Finally! I did look around for Mario while we were eating at Babbo, but alas!

I enjoyed a wonderful glass of Rosato Bastionich 2008 with dinner. The wine had a light, crisp grapefruit flavor:

Sardines with caramelized fennel and other deliciousness:

The BEST pumpkin ravioli I’ve ever had, with sage:

Peter’s wild boar ragu (also excellent):

And, of course, chocolate pistachio semifreddo with pistachio cream:

The “modified Egyptian”, as Peter calls it:

The wine was pretty good with dinner, but I don’t feel like it was a good pairing. Meghan, what would you suggest having with ravioli? (Happy Birthday, by the way!!)

I definitely overindulged a little, but you know what? It’s A-ok! Overindulging is a fine “sometimes” thing, and I very rarely overindulge nowadays. Normal eating is eating too much sometimes and feeling like you wish you had eaten less, and eating too little sometimes and wishing you had eating more (I read that somewhere, but I don’t remember where). Anyway, my wine-induced dehydration this morning was enough to help me remember that overindulging is a “sometimes” thing.

I think this post is long enough, so let’s wrap up with a fun look at the captions from last post! Here they are:

“I think Maddie’s thinking about sneakily slipping out that door as you open it!” Darryn @ brio.gusto

“Please don’t step on me again!” Tina @ A Tina Bit of Faith, Fitness, and Fun

“Stop before you embarrass both of us!” Christina @ Dinner at Christina’s

“Cute tushie!” Nicole @ PreventionRD

“This is my new dance, the running man.” Naomi @ One Fit Foodie

“I’ve taught her to walk well.” Lucy at Sweet Spirit Shine

“Please, I do it way better!” Emma @ Midget Keeper Daily

“Please, you can’t fool me. I know we’re not really outside walking.” LeQuan @ Luv to Eat

Thanks for participating, everyone – we have some real comedians and geniuses out there! 🙂 I’m thinking that I’m going to have a caption contest with REAL PRIZES sometime in the next few weeks … so stay tuned! 😉

Whew! This was long! Until tomorrow … have a wonderful evening!

Q: Have you ever been to NYC? What is your favorite activity to do there?

How cool to just be able to hop over to NYC for a quick getaway! I’ve been to NYC once back in high school on a school trip. We saw all the big touristy things, but I’d love to go back sometime during the Christmas season to see it and do some fun shopping!! 🙂 My favorite thing we did while I was there was see The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway!!!!

I have never been to New York but would love to go someday soon. I’d especially like to see a good show or even go to the opera 🙂 My favourite things about London were all the culture and lively bustle and character of the city, and I guess New York would be similar in some ways.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
