Monday Munchies, Part 34: The Burgeoning Pantry

|

This post is a continuation of the Monday Munchies series where I show everything I eat over the course of single day – in this case, yesterday (Sunday).

Breakfast, 7 am:

smoothie

An unusual departure from my typical Bircher muesli fare, this smoothie was made from blended yogurt, frozen berries, and a tiny banana, and was topped with Rice Crispies. Passive sentence was written by me.

krispies

I also tasted 1/2 tablespoon of a peanut butter/coconut butter blend I picked up at Strawberry Fields a while back and forgot about until several packets burst forth from our peanut butter cabinet (yes, we have a peanut butter cabinet). This unexpected nut butter distressed me, as you’ll see below.

Lunch, 12:30:

lunch

I topped a rather pedestrian salad with a fantastic Taiwanese stir-fry from our favorite local restaurant. I added a bagel piece with cream cheese – the first time I’ve eaten a bagel in a while. Consuming a half-bagel reminded me of how modern bagels are often the equivalent of four slices of bread. Have you ever looked closely at a bagel? Dense and heavy, dear reader, dense and heavy.

So far, none of these meals satisfied a goal we’ve had for the last month: to eat up our pantry and freezer. Why, oh inquiring reader?

Because we’re moving. Again.

That’s right!  Peter and I are moving even farther out west. In a few months’ time, we’ll be enjoying the delights of Oregon. Over the course of less than two years, we’ll have lived on both coasts AND the middle of the country, a situation both neat and strange. I’ll follow-up with a Q&A like I did last time.

Thus, we’re attemping to consume our comestibles, which have grown alarmingly abundant over the past few months. I’m not sure how that happened,

Or do I?
Or do I?

but that doesn’t change the fact that we have five pounds of quinoa, six boxes of Barbara’s cereal, and four giant bags of Peter’s homemade dumplings in the meal queue. Among many other foods. I think we’re in trouble.

Yet, I have hope. I’ve worked on incorporating as many basement foods as possible into our meals. For example, I ate 0.17 ounces of seaweed snacks and called it a day.

2.04 ounces to go.
2.04 ounces to go.

Dinner, 6 pm:

egg

Going along with avoiding our burgeoning pantry, I ate a couple of over-easy eggs to calm my over-queasy stomach. I also nibbled on a bowl of a secret recipe I’ll reveal soon.

BWA HAHAHAHAAAAAA!!
BWA HAHAHAHAAAAAA!!

How’s that for annoying?

Toodle-pip, dear reader!

  1. Your pantry situation somehow made me think of Little House on the Prairie…surviving on those basement foods through the harsh winter 😉 I am aware that it’s spring and there are multiple supermarkets just waiting to be visited 😉

I hope your move goes well! Another adventure!

Lastly, roasted seaweed is super delicious 😀

    Have a lovely week, Jessie!

    1. Thanks, Lucy! I love Little House on the Prairie! Somehow, I think our basement foods are greater in variety and abundance than what the Ingalls family had 😉

  2. “I’m not sure how that happened” – no… your picture indicates that you really are. 😉

Your passive sentence about your passive sentence pleased me.

Good luck with the pantry and freezer work. I’m really grateful that our move was to the next town over!

    1. Thanks, Marie! 🙂

  3. I love that you have a peanut butter cabinet 🙂

    1. Strangely enough, so do I 😉

  4. Donate to your local food bank what is suitable, give rest to friends, and learn from the experience:no bulk shopping for the family of two!And how exciting, a move to Oregon! I wonder which city?It will be very different from East Coast. Good luck with your move, maybe you will visit Seattle one day.

    1. Donation is definitely in our future! (I wish I could say the bulk shopping is not – being married to Peter definitely has its … interesting moments 🙂 )

We’ll be moving to around the Portland area, so not far from Seattle. Thanks for the well wishes!

  5. Ok you are a genius! Smoothie topped with rice crispies, I definitely am going to try that. Also jealous of your moving plans! I love Oregon, it’s absolutely beautiful there.

  6. So exciting about your move!!! I’ve heard so many good things about oregon and I think you will absolutely love it!

  7. Change is exciting and scary! But Oregon is beautiful! Plus, you’ll be much closer. Maybe we can meet one day… 🙂
