Weekend Roundup: Local Eats
Hello, everyone! I can’t wait to share this past weekend with you. As I wrote last Friday, Peter’s parents came for a visit from Friday through Sunday, so I skipped my usual weekend roundup yesterday.
I’ve been looking forward to Peter’s parents visiting for weeks! Back when we lived in CT, we saw them at least once a week. Moving out here has been quite an adjustment. The last time we saw them was for a flying visit on this wedding weekend. Too long ago, in my opinion.
Peter’s parents arrived mid-afternoon Friday and we promptly took a walk in Meadowbrook Park.
The weather could not have been better this weekend. Sunny and temps in the 60s to low 70s all weekend! I can’t believe it’s mid-November (well, actually I can today – highs in the 30s!).
After working up an appetite, Peter’s dad expressed an interest in Chicago-style deep dish pizza. We had heard Papa Del’s in Champaign was good, so we decided to check it out. Somehow we missed the fact this place is pretty much take-out only. We ended up chowing down at one of the metal tables set haphazardly to the side of the take-out area for waiting take-out customers.
Peter and I split an enormous salad,
and we all nibbled at garlic bread stuffed with cheese.
(Requisite “artsy” shot of the day.)
We ordered a medium deep-dish pizza and a small “stuffed” pizza, which is like a pizza-shaped calzone, I believe? I’m not sure, since Papa Del’s made us two regular pizzas instead of the regular and stuffed pizzas we ordered.
Can you tell the difference between the two pizzas? I can’t.
Overall, the pizza was so-so. I’m not a huge fan of thick crusts that take a lot of jaw power to bit through, so I didn’t love this deep dish pizza. I know a lot of people are fans of deep dish, so I’ll chalk this up to being a thin crust kind of girl. Since the tomato sauce and cheese were delicious, I’d like to try their thin crust pizzas next time. Oh, and I’ll remember to get take out instead of “eat in” 😉
Stay tuned for the second half of my weekend roundup! Why am I dividing up this post? Choose one or all of the following answers:
[1] This post is already super long, yo. My attention span is only so long!
[2] Totally milking the weekend.
[3] Deadline coming up!
Yep, all three are true. I have to finish a client’s nutrient analysis before I leave to visit my dad in Colorado on Wednesday, so it’s BUSY times here in the THIH household! I’ll leave you with some pictures I took of our frozen deck this morning. Highs in the 70s no longer!
Have a great week, dear reader!
Q: How was your weekend?
AND
Quick! Thin crust OR deep dish??
What a great weekend!
That pizza looks fabulous! I had deep dish once in Chicago and it was soo good! I know what you mean about being a thin crust girl. If I had my choice, there is this Italian style pizza place that makes the most amazing thin crust pizza!
That thin crust pizza sounds delicious 🙂
Thin crust! 😉
Thin crust grilled on the grill or in a wood fire oven! Sounds like you had a great time!
🙂
